Louis Vuitton Passion

Written By:- Amy

It was 1987 and I was 10 years old. I had no knowledge about Louis Vuitton. My parents had no money to waste on lavish things or fashionable luxuries. My father always wore the same two outfits and my mother always carried around a fake Gucci bag that she must have bought on the street for five dollars

It was July and my father had told us that my aunt was coming to visit from Korea and that I would have to share my room with her for the next two months or so. I neither felt happiness or sadness, because I really didn't know her. I had moved to the United States when I was 2 years old and I had never seen any family in Korea since.

It was a warm morning and my father, mother, little brother, and I were headed to the airport in our old Dodge car to pick up my aunt. We had the windows open because the air conditioner didn't work, and my hair was blowing everywhere.

We arrived at the airport, and I saw a young and very well dressed woman walking towards us, and my mother greeted her with a bow. This was my aunt Lee and she was beautiful. She was well dressed, and I can remember her red lipstick and the subtle scent of perfume when she hugged me. Not one hair on her head was out of place. But the thing that really caught my eye was her handbag. She was carrying a brown handbag with little LV's and flower like things on it, and I had no idea what it was except that I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

When it was almost time for her to get ready to go back to Korea, she had a few things she had to purchase and take back with her, and my mother and I went along with her to Macy's in Manhattan. She bought some makeup from Elizabeth Arden and Estee Lauder, and she bought some polo shirts from Ralph Lauren. Her last stop was at Louis Vuitton where she wanted to buy a new one for herself and a few more for her sisters. I didn't know then, but now when I think of it she was buying the Speedys. I remember staring at them and watching her examining them and putting down the cash to pay for them. I remember the most the look of envy and sadness on my mother's face as she couldn't dream of owning one.

Today my mother is the proud owner of 4 Louis Vuittons. Her first was the Large Looping bag, then the Large Bucket, followed by the Monogram Accessories Pouch, and finally a black Epi Lussac. And I am very proud to say that I have a not too shabby collection of Louis Vuittons myself. Even before I knew what Louis Vuittons were, I fell in love with them, and I am still very much a lover of LV.
