From the Louis Vuitton Sac De Nuit range of the Trianon design, we have three bags to choose from.

Now, to be fair, there isn't a huge amount of difference between the Louis Vuitton Sac de Nuit bags except size. Oh and canvas color.

Heck, don't forget the color and type of trim as well! Hmmm, okay there may be quite a difference then.

The three Sac de Nuit sizes ar GM, MM and PM. The GM measures 14" long by 9" high and 6" deep. The MM is a shade under this, coming in at 13" by 8" and 5". The PM is where the most difference in size is visible, measuring a refined 8" long by 6" high and 3" deep. A shoulder bag this certainly isn't! The GM size is though!!

As for the rest of the build on these bags, it's all the same from here on in.

Using elements from the first series of luggage that Louis Vuitton produced in 1854, the Sac De Nuit range is a gorgeous burst of nostalgia. Vintage looking bags that really do capture the travellers love for adventure that seemed to be so strong in those years.

Subtle differences to the build of these bags help this image along, marking them out as something different to the bags created in the main stream today!

Take the hardware on the outside of the bag for example.

With 99% of the bags made by LV these days, it's a common site to see the golden hardware used.

On the Louis Vuitton Sac De Nuit bags, the golden hardware has been replaced by varnished brass hardware on the stud heads, buckles and edges. This touch, more than anything, gives the image of a trunk maker.

On the outside of every bag is also a leather label, made from the same leather that the bag is trimmed with. Written on this label is "Louis Vuitton Inventeur".

Do you remember - or have you seen - the old trunks with the brass tacks punched in along the edges, trimmed with brown leather and the owners label on top? This bag does conjure that image up.

At each bottom corner of the Louis Vuitton Sac De Nuit bags is a buckle and strap. This allows you to undo them for storage, flattening the bag out for minimum space and maximum protection.

When you need to use the bag on your travels, simply do the buckle up again and hey presto - you've got your bag back again!

Inside the Sac De Nuit bags you'll also find another strong image of the trunk maker roots with the lining. Made from a cotton and polyester mix is the most gorgeous striped material.

Raspberry colored stripes on an ivory white background. Looks good enough to eat and will certainly make you smile each and every time you open your bag.

A label is printed on the lining with the information "Sac de Nuit, Depose en France et a l'etranger, Louis Vuitton Inventeur, 101, Champs Elysees, Paris". Now if that doesn't reinforce the trunk and traveller image of the bag and make you feel like some intrepid traveller, then goodness knows what will!

Using the Toille Trianon canvas that was used on the trunks makes for a sturdy, tough and very durable material and will ensure that this bag serves for quite a time.

Trim used on the outside is the Suhali goatskin leather or Ostrich leather. Access into the bag is through a double zippered frame top opening so getting in and out shouldn't be a problem.

Now the colors avaiable in the Louis Vuitton Sac de Nuit takes careful explaining so I'll take this slow and try to get it right first time!

There are two colors of canvas available - the standard grey or the lesser known olive green. In the grey canvas version you can choose to have your trim in the camel colored Suhali leather or in Lilac colored ostrich leather. In the Olive Green canvas version, trim is set as a rich light Chocolate Brown Ostrich leather.

Pricing of the Louis Vuitton Sac de Nuit does differ across the variations of bag though, quite considerably.

The middle sized bag, for instance, is $2,140 in Suhali trim and $3,850 in Ostrich trim - an extra $1,710 for the Ostrich! The Suhali PM size is $2,000 whilst the Ostrich trim PM is $3,250.

I don't believe that an Ostrich trim has been made in the GM size yet! (Someone let me know if it has been, please.)

The Louis Vuitton Sac De Nuit bags from the Louis Vuitton Trianon range really, really stand out as bags that hark back to the original roots of Louis Vuitton the trunk making company.
